Today I have the pleasure of posting on this blog for my very first time. I am a stay-at-home mom who, like many of you, just loves every opportunity to scrapbook – it's my Mommy Time Out! I live in Sherwood Park Alberta, CANADA. Many readers likely are sitting on their patio by their pool reading this post; HOWEVER, I am in amongst the cold HEAPS of snow. But with spring's approach, I'm starting to think of all the things in my home that needs to be freshened up.
Opening the drapes after a long season of winter makes me CRAVE changes in my home. Along with scrapbooking I love home design, and I am inspired by the colourful and modern displays in magazines. I think of the new drapes I could put up, new cushions to buy, changes to wall colors for some excitement and even yet I think of renovations I would just love to do – what I would do for a larger back entrance and laundry room! These thoughts are quickly followed with the reality of time and $$$.
Why do we think that our home needs so much more?? Perhaps because we are reminded more often of what we ‘should have’ rather than what we ‘have’. I am a blessed person - I recognize that. I have a lovely home where we make fabulous family memories daily. I love my front entrance – it’s where we welcome our friends and family for visits. I love our mantel - a place that is often laden with birthday cards and decorations my kids make at school. I love our back mud room – where I find my one-year-old trying on every shoe in the house. My kitchen is always full of activity and I love it for that! The kids rooms are not decorated like a magazine, but filled with mismatched furniture. However, I love those rooms most of all because it’s the place I get the warmest hugs and a kiss before bed.
With this major oversight in mind I created this page. I encourage you to love your home. Document this love by creating a page dedicated to your home. A great place to start for inspiration is in the Welcome to Our Home Digital Additions.
Embrace the season and look forward to all the wonderful moments to take place in it!
Ingredients:
Nancy O’Dell Recipe Digital Kit
Welcome to Our Home Digital Additions
Garden Tranquility Digital Kit
Basic Stitching Digital Embellishments
Digital Embellishments – Office Supplies – Gold
Digital Embellishments – Sewing Room - Romance
How to Create:
Select O’Dell Recipe Paper 4 from Nancy O’Dell Recipe Digital Kit and place on page. Not keeping to its original aspect, using the arrows squish the paper to fit the bottom portion of the page.
Add Divine Paper 1 to the page from the Divine Power Palette. Move this paper behind the Recipe Paper 4.
Add another paper to the page. Change the color to this paper using the sample color from the dark blue of the Divine paper. Increase the darkness of this page using the adjust hue tool. Add surface texture burlap to the paper. Using the cutters ribbon cut the paper using the rough rip. Slide this paper under the recipe paper.
Add burlap surface texture to the Divine Paper 1 on the top portion of the page. Copy and paste the Divine paper and move to the back of the page. Color this paper same blue as in the Divine Paper (now lighter than the ripped paper). Using the cutters ribbon select blend. Increase the blending span of this tool and blend the right portion of the paper off the page. Leaving exposed the light blue paper.
Insert Stitch8 from Basic Stitching Digital Embellishments onto the page to create border as well as attach the layers on the page.
Insert flourish2 from Garden Tranquility Digital Kit on left portion of page.
Add a paper to the page. Using the cutters ribbon – custom cut. Cut out a shape that resembles a house. Doesn’t have to be perfect – you get the idea no matter your skill level....have fun! Change the color of the paper to charcoal grey, and add a burlap texture. Copy and paste this house and color it white or off white. Lay the shape on top of the other and decrease its size slightly so the background shape is slightly exposed. Add Eyelet7 from Digital Embellishments – Sewing Room – Romance to corners of the house shape. Add GoldStringBow from Digital Embellishments – Office Supplies – Gold to the page. Cut out the bow only on this embellishment. Add this embellishment to the eyelets on the page. Give the bow a slight shadow to give better dimension.
Select a large number of pictures that have taken place in our around your home. Pictures that make you think of your home and what happens in it J. Give all pictures small white mats. Once they are arranged in an organic way within the parameters of the house shape add shadows to some of the pictures so they look in fact layered.
Insert word art HomeComfort from Welcome to Our Home Digital Additions. Cut out the words “There is Nothing” to use as a custom word art for your page. I then added “like the place we call” in LaineyDay SH Font, and “home” in High Fiber font. I then also added more journaling beside using LaineyDay SH font.
Finished Size:
12X12 page print
