If you're on Pinterest, you've probably seen all the wonderful subway art pinned. I'm a sucker for subway art because I love fonts, so every month I swap my new favorite into a frame at home. When I was looking for a Valentine Subway Art, I couldn't find one that I loved. So I thought it might be a great challenge to try to make my own. It's fun opportunity to play with fonts! I even added a little embellishment to mine to dress it up a bit. Let me walk you through how I created my personalized subway art for Valentine's Day:
1. Open a new 12x12 page in StoryBook Creator.
2. Make Love Paper 18 your background from the Love Digital Kit.
3. Insert a text box - Click create - Go to format - Properties - Change the text box size to W:11.5 H: 2.
4. Type your first line of text - I typed LEBLANC FAMILY in all caps with the font BUDMO*. I then increased the font size until it was just large enough to fit in the text box. I also changed the font color to white. (You may need to play with the size of the text box to make it all fit.)
5. Copy and paste this text box and bring it just under your first line. Double click and type in HUGS & KISSES in all caps using the font Cooper Black with a font size of 96. Change the font size of the & to 72. (You may need to play with the size of the text box to make it all fit.)
6. Copy and paste the second text box and bring it just under your second line. Double click and type in conversation hearts in all lower case. I used the font Impact with a size of 84. Put five spaces in between the word converstation and hearts to make room for the heart. (You may need to play with the size of the text box to make it all fit.)
7. Copy and paste the third text box and bring it just under your third line. Double click and type in February the 14th in all lower case. I used the font Marcelle Script* with a size of 108. (You may need to play with the size of the text box to make it all fit.)
8. Copy and paste the fourth text box and bring it just under your fourth line. Double click and type in LOVE IS IN THE AIR in all lower case. I used the font Rustler* with a size of 108.
I added some extra spaces in between the words. (You may need to play with the size of the text box to make it all fit.)
9. Copy and paste the fifth text box and bring it just under your fifth line. Double click and type in xoxoxoxoxo in all lower case. I used the font Plane Crash* with a size of 84. (You may need to play with the size of the text box to make it all fit.)
10. Copy and paste the sixth text box and bring it just under your sixth line. Double click and type in ALL YOU NEED IS L VE in all lower case. I ommited the last "o" and used the font Bauhaus 93 with a size of 84. (You may need to play with the size of the text box to make it all fit.)
11. Insert the Green_Heart from the Love Digital Kit. Place between the words conversation and hearts. Add a light shadow. Insert the Heart-Yellow from the Love Digital Kit. Place it where the missing "o" in love is. Add a light shadow.
12. Choose all text boxes and align vertically. Move the hearts into place again.
13. Print and frame!
I ended up using my favorite white 4x4 frame. I turned my document into a jpg and resized it to fit my 4x4 frame. You can do the same if you have a smaller square frame, but this would also look great on an Everyday Display!
I hope you enjoy making your own subway art. Next up, St. Patty's Day!
*These fonts were free fonts that I downloaded from Dafont.com.
Very cute. I used subway art with teaching words and framed into an inexpensive frame to give as teacher gifts. Just another idea and application!
