tem•plate: A pattern or gauge, such as a thin metal plate with a cut pattern, used as a guide in making something accurately.
Wow. I made my first calendar pages this week. At first thought it was going to be cool to show you how you can drop in 12 x 12 pages or Page Prints you've already done into the calendar templates. However, that doesn't even begin to scratch at the surface of what you can do with the new calendar templates.
You can:
• import completed pages as photos and just drag and drop (or, you can copy/paste from another SBC+ file if you still have items you want to change)
• start from scratch and create something new
• make any photo or paper the background of the calendar
• change the calendar style
• change any month to a new month (switch January to July without starting over)
• change the color of anything in the calendar, change the fonts
• add photos, embellishments or text to any cell on the calendar
I discovered all kinds of versatility within the template. Check out the screen shots below to see some of the great things you can do with calendars.
cal•en•dar tem•plates: a starting point, a guide to making your calendars just the way you want.
Insert your already completed pages
1. If you haven't already, save your pages as 300 dpi jpgs. From your calendar project, click on Get Photos. Import pages you want to use as photos.
2. Drag and drop on to calendar template. Size to fit the upper portion of the template.
Change the style of the calendars & adding a photo as your background
1. It doesn't get much easier than this. Right click on the calendar grid to see the pop up menu. Go to "Use a different Calendar Style", choose your favorite from the pop up window.
2. Adding the photo as a background is amazingly simple too. From the content menu, choose your photo, right click and choose "Make background". That's it. (You can do this with paper too!)
3. Just like any StoryBook page you create, you can add any embellishments or type you like.
Personalize the calendar grid
1. Right click the calendar grid, choose "properties" from the pop up menu. From this menu, you can change colors, fonts, spacing and more as it applies to the calendar grid. (see screen shot below)
Cells within the calendar
1. Drag and drop an image or an element into any cell within the calendar. Or, right click the calendar grid and choose "Edit Calendar Cells" to add text or make other changes to the individual days of the month.
When you're all done creating your own unique and fabulous calendar grid, you can sample the grid and apply the same features to any other grid in your project.

Sweet! Thanks for the tips!

It is amazing that you can do all that with the new calendar feature. It was certainly not apparent from just looking at the feature once it was installed that other calendar styles were available. Perhaps you could put this information on the side bar of news that comes up when we open the program, so customers who don't check this blog will know more about the calendar functionality. Thanks.

Corinne,
You're awesome! I've been creating calendar pages for my daughters pregnancy so she can put them in the front of her baby book. Your tips are so helpful. Thanks for great information.

Just made my first calender yesterday of our CM Ireland trip pics and love it! Can't wait to try out these other ideas! I had NO IDEA that you could right click and find all these menu options! On to my next calendar!

I can't wait to download these templates, and try all the useful ideas you have provided. I do have a question about templates though. How can I create my own templates to use at a later date for pages? Also, when you insert a photo box, it is always a rectangle, how can I make it a circle or oval, and have the same functionality as a photo box? Thanks.

Peggy, great questions. Rather than try to answer those here, I'll put together another post answering those for you and provide a link for future reference. Corinne

I'm confused. In looking at the calendar templates/pre-designed pages in SBC Plus 3.0 I do not see the same Calendar Template options. I also do not have the option of...."right click the calendar grid and choose "Edit Calendar Cells" to add text or make other changes to the individual days of the month."
Why would I not have the same as you are showing in your example above? I have customers that want to have the flexibility of putting in items onto the various days on the calendars. I also like the calendar templates you show better than the ones that I can see as options.
Thanks!
Vickie

I"m confused too...I tried to input pictures/words into the calendar cells last night and when i right clicked I couldn't change the cells and when i tried to drop pictures into the cells, it wouldn't work. Any ideas why this is happeneing?

I can't figure out how to just have the background on the top half of the calendar rather than also behind the grid. I have tried it with both a picture background and a paper background in SB 3.0 +. Makes the calendar section a little hard to read.
Posted by: Eleanor Simon | 10/20/2009 at 04:22 AM
Vickie, make sure when you are right clicking to access the calendar options that you have the calendar grid selected first. When it is not selected, different options appear that don't apply to the grid. Sorry for any confusion.
Kristin, there are three calendars available for download, one of them is for customers who choose to use the free version of SBC. This template has text options preset in each of the calendar cells. This would keep you from adding images to the cells. The download I used in these examples are the SBC 3.0 2010 Plus Basic Calendar Pages located here: http://www.creativememories.com/MainMenu/Our-products-and-services/Digital-Scrapbooking/Digital-Content-Downloads/Free-Downloadable-Themes
Eleanor, when you want the images/papers you use to only be visible on the top half of the calendar, drag and drop to the template or choose "add to page" rather than "make background". Then you'll have the ability to size as you'd like.
Thanks! Corinne

Corinne -
Thanks for your quick reply! This is a great way to exchange information! I have had the calendar grid selected and still don't see the same optinos you are showing or have the option to "edit calendar cells". I have verified that i have all the updates for SBC+3.0. Could it be something with windows or anything? I can't figure out why I would have different options than what you are showing.
Thanks again for your help!

Vickie, let me chat with a few more people at the home office tomorrow. Not sure why you would be seeing different options. Will post again soon! Corinne

Hi again, Vickie! This issue occurred internally also. Once StoryBook Creator Plus was updated, calendar functionality was accessible. Also, the calendar templates were updated on October 2. If you downloaded before the second, you should re-download the calendars. Hope this resolves the issue for you. Thanks for your patience. Corinne

I have been trying to download the free template for pre-designed pages for the calendar for SBC+3.0, but my computer cancels out at about 95% each time I try. Any suggestions

I spent time today creating my first calendar using Storybook Creator Plus 3.0. I then tried to follow the directions in the Help Zone for ordering the 12x18 Calendar... I went to the Order option on the Home ribbon, but I could not find the option "Review your Calendar". The only options I have are "Preview order" and "Order product". If I select either of them, I get an error notification saying 'No products were found that can be ordered with this project.' Any ideas as to what is going on and why I can't preview or order my calendar??? Thanks!

Hi I'm trying to download new calendar pages, but when I try to import them it keeps telling me they are incompatiable. Not sure what I'm doingI have storybook plus is that 2 or 3? Can someone help me ?
Posted by: Melanie Bailey | 11/02/2009 at 02:00 PM
Not only can I not download but I already created two versions of this calendar following the directions on the website. Realized about 3 pages in that I was not on the correct size. So far this is more annoying than it is helpful.

I have a question and a suggestion about the calendar grid. Question - how can I center the text I type into the cell? I would like my entries to be centered both vertically and horizontally in the cell. Comment - PLEASE add the standard holidays to the grid templates. I would much rather delete a couple I don't want than to have to figure out when all the holidays are next year and type them in. What a pain!

Love this Calendar, it't the gift that keeps on giving, first its a calendar, that you can frame it and hang on your wall, (for me at work), then if you have already given the reciever an album and they can save it in the album. If not that could be an up sale or gift idea. Wow!
Question, not sure how to phrase this, but here goes, can you change the font color in just one date box? I added a picture, then added text, but the text doesn't show up, I'd like to change it only on the date that I inserted the picture.

I have downloaded StoryBook Creator 3.0, and imported the predesigned calendar pages. I can see the predesigned pages from the "Content" screen but can't for the life of me figure out how to get them into a project. They do not come up as an option under new project. I figure I am missing something. I would really like to do a calendar and chatch the special but can't seem to get any further with it. :( Please help.
Thanks.
