This is my first blog post as a member of the Design Team and I am excited to share a cute idea that Grant (my six year old) and I came up with. I was inspired by little Halloween baskets that I did for Grant's preschool class last year.
I wanted to do something to help out his teacher for Valentine's Day and his teacher loved the idea! Grant and I did a trial run to see if it was going to be too hard for Grade Primary (which is what we call Kindergarden in Nova Scotia) and he did great!
I also teach scrapbooking at lunchtime to a group at my daughter's Junior High and we did the baskets there too. It's a fun project for all ages to fill with Valentines, candy or a little gift for that special someone on Valentine's Day.
Grant was so proud of his Valentine Basket and he already knows who that special someone is who will be the lucky one to receive it!
Want to make one for the special someone in your life? Follow these instructions to make your own!
Supplies:
Pink Shimmer Cardstock (US / CAN)
12-Inch Rotary Trimmer (US / CAN)
Scoring Rotary Blade (US / CAN)
Straight Rotary Blade (US / CAN)
Border Maker System (US / CAN)
Double Heart Chain Border Maker Cartridge (US / CAN)
Precision Point Adhesive (US / CAN)
Cricut Machine
Cricut Alphabet
Steps:
Take a 12 x 12 sheet of Pink Shimmer Cardstock and score it 4" in from each edge. This will make a 3 x 3 grid. Then make 4 cuts on the score lines - 2 cuts are from the top to the 1st horizontal line and the next 2 cuts are from the bottom up to the horizontal line. Fold on all of score lines and use your Tape Runner to hold the sides in place and you will have a box.
Next cut 2 borders in Taffy Cardstock with the Double Heart Chain Border Maker Cartridge. Cut a 1 3/4" x 12" Pink Shimmer strip and use the Precision Point Adhesive to glue the 2 heart borders to the strip. Use your Tape Runner to fasten this strip to your box for a handle.
Cut 2 more Double Heart Chains in White Cardstock and glue around the bottom of the box. When you cut your Double Heart Chains you will have hearts left over and I used the Taffy ones on the White border and the White hearts on the Taffy border. Next cut 14 hearts with the Sweet Heart Maker in White and/or Taffy Cardstock. Each corner heart decoration is made up of 4 hearts. Fold each heart in half lengthwise, match up hearts and glue with Precision Point Adhesive. Attach heart to corner with Precision Point Adhesive.
Next, use the Sweet Heart Maker to punch a hole on 2 sides of the box. This is the tricky part, glue around the edge of the heart and glue it back into the hole in the box.
Lastly, cut a message from your Cricut and add to the opposite sides of the box.
You can make this box as decorative as you like or keep it simple for children to do.
I hope you enjoy this project with your little Valentines!

This was awesome! It was so easy to do, mine weren't as elaborate, but turned out super cute none the less. My daughter is so excited to take her teacher's valentines treats to them in these boxes. They are so great, I'm going to keep them in mind for bday gift wrapping, and other holiday treats gift giving. Awesome, thanks again for a great idea!!
