While watching the nightly news recently, I saw the Snuggie™ Blanket hit the New York Fashion Week runway with new colors and styles. (There were dogs modeling them too!) I chuckled, amazed this shapeless blanket with sleeves, often the fodder of late-night talk shows and Facebook chatter, had made its way to the New York fashion scene.
I've joked about this oversized fashion trend with co-workers. And laughed out loud at one specific scene from its commercial: the family wearing Snuggies at an outdoor game. What teenage football player wants to look up in the stands and see his parents dressed in matching Snuggies?
So, how did this unexpected fashion trend find its way to Creative Memories? This is how I remember it…
At Creative Memories, we work in pods. The people in my pod have what I call Goldilocks Syndrome. That's when people who work in the same place – at the same time – find the room temperature too hot (that's me!), too cold (Leah and Wanda), or just right (Chris and Lisa – I never hear them complain about the temperature). I use a fan to keep cool, while my pod mates – Leah and Wanda – either go with a layered look or wrap themselves in a cozy Creative Memories blanket to keep warm.
So, with Leah's upcoming birthday at the height of Snuggie popularity and just in time for winter, no one questioned giving her the somewhat useful, not-too-flattering Snuggie. She put it on, struggling a bit to find the sleeves. And there she stood drowning in blue.
Leah wears her Snuggie. When she's cold. At her desk. Not at meetings. Never at lunch. Sometimes, she'll even model it for a curious passerby or two, and we laugh (with her, not at her). Yes, this unusual blanket with sleeves has found a place at Creative Memories. And in my pod.
Since it's already here, why not take the Snuggie sensation to the next level? Picture this: The "Wrappers" enter this year's Creative Memories Halloween party, warming the hearts of everyone there (especially the judges). Wanda is wearing the new luxury Snuggie, Chris is in camouflage and Lisa in funky tie-dye. I'm sporting one of the new animal prints. Zebra, I think. Leah is there, too, in signature blue. It may be a long way from the New York runway, but it has the makings of a fun and fabulous fashion scene – one that's sure to find a place in my scrapbook! All kidding aside, I think the Snuggie serves a practical purpose at an affordable price. I confess, I'm adding one to my blanket collection to wear on cold winter nights in the privacy of my own home. And perhaps I'll wear it to the company's annual Halloween party. It may even come in handy for scrapbooking. But it's way too warm and clumsy for this hottie to wear at work.
How about you? Do you see yourself in a Snuggie?
Thanks for all your comments! A Creative Memories Snuggie with socks and slippers would be great, especially on days like today. It's October 12 and snowing in St. Cloud, Minnesota. It's going to be a long winter!

Too funny! I could definately see a CM snuggie in the BE section of CM Online for customer gifts, retreats or just for those too embarrased to buy them at the local shop!

Too funny, however, I'm with Leah and Wanda...always having to go for that layered look. CM Snuggie would be so fun...CM slipper socks or slippers I can see them all being worn at retreats after dinner!

Love your post! Since I'm always cold I've always dressed warm but now I'm dealing with hot flashes so I need to be able to strip off at a moment's notice! And in between I'm just as cold as usual! A CM snuggie would be great!!!

Oh yes... a CM snuggie would be wonderful. I could see a room full of weekend croppers in those and their slippers.

What a great story! I've seen those Snuggies on TV and as truly thought about making a couple for my husband and me because our old house gets a little drafty in the winter. So fun to see an actual person (not an actor) standing there "drowning" in the one-size-fits-all! Keep these wonderful stories coming. I'm going to love this blog!

I would love a snuggie and debate everytime I see their commercial. I have seen them in Target now, and am going to get one before it starts getting cold.
I like the idea of a CM one for cropping :)

I second the suggestions for a CM Snuggie...adapted for album making! I'm always freezing at crops.

Hilarious! OK, maybe this belongs in the Suggestion zone ... A CM snuggie with pockets to hold All Purpose Scissors, Multi-Purpose Tool, adhesive and maybe sew some pen loops on there as well!
Funny, post, Jill thanks for the Monday morning laugh!
