Here are some interesting facts from the Infotrends PhotoPublishing Summit and Digital Imaging Conference that I just attended in San Francisco:
- 79% of digital photos taken are not printed.
- 8% of consumers order photo gifts, including photo books, each year.
- 39% of consumers have lost some (30%) or all (9%) of their digital images due to a hard disk crash, virus, or accidental deletion.
- Facebook has over 14 billion photos, with 2 billion photos uploaded each month.
- 70% of Facebook users don't know that Facebook saves only low-resolution photos!
- The average digital camera user takes 116 photos in 3 months.
- The difference between professional and amateur photographers is that the pros only show you the good ones.
I don't upload my photos on Facebook to save them, I upload my photos to Facebook to share them with my friends and family.

Interesting facts. Many people upload their photos to Facebook (I do!) without realizing that Facebook will not preserve these memories forever. After the Facebook hype goes away (and it will... remember Geocities? Gone... Remember My Space? Declining...) where will my photos be?

What is the best product - not expensive though - to scan negatives & slides into my Memory Manager? I now scan some older photos from my Epson RX595 & 'fix' them in MMgr 3.0 but also, is there a better product to do so? ANY help will do!
I just can't afford to take the hundreds of slides my Mom gave me to a professional service & MMgr 3.0 does such a great job making them look MUCH better!
Thanks!

It is so nice to know that we have Dr. Mark looking out for us! I have always followed your advice closely when it comes to image permanence. If I am going to create a traditional page or a digital print, I want to make sure it is going to last the tests of time. Thanks for all you do to test and retest our products and their longevity so that we Consultants can go out there and see what we KNOW is the absolute best products on the market!
So, what do YOU recommend for shadow backup of images and completed StoryBook projects these days?

After a rough day, it is good to know I am way above average in something! I far exceed 116 photos in three months. I often take several thousand per month.
